Salahi Saga Continues – Another Attempt at Exposure? Northern Virginia Buzz

February 16th, 2012 by

FRONT ROYAL — A $50.45 million lawsuit filed Monday in Warren County Circuit Court by Tareq Salahi against his wife Michaele Salahi accuses her of having an affair with a rock band guitarist as part of a calculated attempt to make money for the musician, band, and herself at his expense.

Salahi describes himself in the complaint as “physically, emotionally and financially” ruined by his wife’s actions since mid-September when she left him. He accuses her of running away with Journey lead guitarist Neal Schon and “campaigning to show him as a buffoon with respect to that affair and humiliating him.”

The suit, filed on behalf of Salahi by his attorney, Georgia Rossiter of Winchester, comes about two months after the Salahis sued each other for divorce.

The latest suit lists Mrs. Salahi as a defendant, along with Nomota Inc., which is the business name for Journey, and DD Entertainment LLC, identified as publicist and agent for the Salahis and now working for Schon and Mrs. Salahi.

The suit accuses Schon of sending an email photo of a male sexual body part to Salahi on Sept. 13 and that Salahi believed the body part belonged to Schon.

The suit also alleges “Your plaintiff . . . received a phone call that evening from someone who said, “This is Neal, I am [expletive] your wife.”

The suit asks for monetary and punitive damages based on five claims. They are: outrageous conduct — intentional infliction of emotional distress; conspiracy to defame; tortuous interference with a contract expectancy; unjust enrichment; and defamation. Mrs. Salahi’s attorney in the divorce case, Ed Barnes of Chesterfield, refused to comment on either the divorce or Salahi’s latest lawsuit.

Georgia Rossiter, who represents Salahi in the lawsuit and his divorce filing, also refused to comment.

“My client’s position is that the publicity is inappropriate,” Rossiter said.

Salahi’s complaint describes a series of actions by his wife and him intended to bring them to public attention and earn large sums of money through joint appearances on television shows such as an Australian version of “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Real Housewives of D.C.”

The complaint refers to the Salahis crashing of a state dinner at the White House in 2009 that “catapulted the couple into celebrity.”

“The Salahis, through their concerted efforts, held themselves out not just as husband and wife but as business partners and further, a brand,” the suit states. “They wrote a book together, made countless appearances together and were essentially inseparable in both their personal and business lives.”

Salahi contends that his wife left him for Schon in September as part of another business venture intended to benefit her, Schon and the band.

“Journey was currently touring the country and the concerts were not selling out,” the complaint states. “Having been involved in the reality television business for several years, the defendants knew that a public affair would generate interest in both of them and immediate income for Neal Schon and Journey.”

Where Are Rents Headed?

February 8th, 2012 by

People are delaying the decision to buy a home because they are not sure where prices are headed. If they buy and prices continue to soften, they feel that they will not have purchased at the optimal moment. They reason that, if they sit and wait, they can’t be hurt. This thinking assumes that a non-decision comes without consequence.

The normal retort to this thinking by people bullish on real estate is that prices may soon turn to the positive or that interest rates will start heading upward. Buy now before the cost of buying increases! Today, we want to look at this from a different angle. We want to alert our readers that their housing expense is about to increase if they continue to rent.

Currently, in most parts of the country, buying is less expensive than renting. Plus, purchasers can lock in their housing expense for the next thirty years by buying now. They will get a sensational price and a record low interest rate. What will happen if they continue to rent?

The Alternative to Buying

If a family continues to rent, they are looking at a housing expense which will rise with the market. Rental costs increase by 3% a year historically. But today’s rental market favors the landlord to a greater degree. Below is a graph of how rental prices have increased recently and where they are projected to go over the next few years based on areport from Marcus & Millichap.

Bottom Line

Hoping to save by delaying the purchase of a home may result in higher housing costs while you’re waiting, thus achieving the exact opposite result. Check with a local real estate professional to determine the best option for you and your family.

Jay Thomas’ Introduction to Blogging

January 31st, 2012 by

Good afternoon everyone! I hope all is well on this fine, Spring like day! Well, I have entered the world of “blogging” and very excited to get started.

A Little Bit About Me:

I was born in Lynchburg, VA. and moved to Leesburg, VA. at a ripe young age of just a few months. I attended Catoctin Elementary School, JL Simpson Middle and Loudoun County High School. Sport of choice growing up and throughout high school was soccer but also played a bit of baseball and basketball. I was involved in the Boy Scouts, Student Council, and Key Club.

After graduating from high school I attended Radford University and moved back to the area in 1999. After working various jobs over the next 5 years I decided to enroll in a Real Estate course and become a licensed realtor. At the time, my father, Bill Thomas had been selling real estate for 30 years. Dinner table conversations consisted of real estate and current dealings so you could say I was “somewhat” familiar with the industry. Having always enjoyed working with people I was ready to obtain my license and assist people in the biggest investment of their lives – not to mention the emotional roller coaster that comes with purchasing and selling a home.

Over the past 8 years I have witnessed the height of the market, the crash, short sales, foreclosures, and the ups and downs of interest rates; needless to say this has not been a boring industry. However, I can honestly say that what I love most about being a Realtor are the relationships and friendships that I have made along the way. It’s funny, I am so involved with my clients through negotiating, updates, emails, txts, etc. that it’s hard turning off that contstant contact and when it’s over  it’s hard not having that interaction. The positive that I take away is when we are at the setlement table I can see the joy and excitement in my clients eyes and that it’s not a state of goodbye but the start of a relationship that will last forever.

For those that took the time to read my first blog I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about myself. I look forward to more posts, hearing your responses, chatting about the topics, and keeping you updated on all things Northern VA.

Until next time, keep the fire,

Jay Thomas
